Christmas in Indiana: Holiday Styled Photo Sessions
Christmas in Indiana! I set up these holiday styled sessions in Milford, Indiana thanks to my dear friend Julia and her lovely vintage truck. It was actually a pretty shitty day — cold + windy — but all my clients showed up! Hallelujah.
I wanted these to be different than the traditionally styled Christmas photos that you see everywhere. I wanted these to be eclectic and fun! Although we utilized the vintage Ford truck, I brought in a good mix of old + new or handmade, funky pieces to complete the look!
I did mix a couple “traditional” or rustic elements in: the wood crate and lanterns. I also included a small, artificial tree in the bed of the truck, but it had some funky ornaments on it.
I spent HOURS handcrafting the wreath from Hemlock clippings (that I took the night before, in the dark, by the light of my iPhone flashlight) and the pom-pom garland. Those were a pain in my ass, but I’m so happy with how they turned out! They added that extra funk to the photos.
Julia also dealt with the pain-in-the-ass pom-pom garland, because they became a tangled mess as we were setting up the truck! She was the real MVP and untangled them all. Thanks Julia.
I had a bunch of the cutest families come out for these sessions! So many amazing photos of adorable children and dogs.
My mom thrifted the rug years ago (and I acquired it because I loved it so much!). I thrifted a bunch of pillows and added some of my own. I purchased a couple plaid scarf-blankets (to add to my neutral blankets) and the fuzzy white rug online.
I wrapped a few boxes in brown, postal paper and added leftover yarn and hemlock clippings to finish.
I purchased some battery-powered lights to add with the garland, which didn’t really show up in the photos until it was darker (haha so smart Katie).
I put a LOT of time, effort, and heart into these holiday styled sessions! I hope my clients felt that in their images (:
Again — HUGE shout out to Julia + Davie + Dave Grossman for providing the truck and property (and man-power) to set these up!
Until next time!
